This proposal came about as a response to a legislative request from the US Congress to the National Park Service (NPS) requesting all NPS resources to be inventoried and compiling Natural Resources Study Reports. The study's objectives consist of determining the distribution and abundance of land bird species in Montezuma Castle National Monument (MOCA), providing the MOCA staff with management recommendations concerning the land birds in their monument, furnishing a manual containing descriptions of monitoring techniques that will allow MOCA resources management staff to monitor the population trends of the land birds on the monument, and supplying the park with an annotated check list of avian species that occur in the monuments.
