Between 1969 and 1971 a joint effort by U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Bureau of Land Management inventoried the forest on the west side of Cook Inlet. This 180,000 acre unit is called the Tuxedni unit and contains three blocks: Polly Creek, Red Glacier, and Iniskin Peninsula. Area and timber volume estimates were based on a double sampling procedure involving both aerial photography and ground surveys. Commercial forest land totaled 45,000 acres with a total volume of 105 million feet. The major species is a hybrid mixture of Sitka and white spruce.
