This paper discusses a timber type model for identifying suitable Mexican spotted owl (Strix occidentalis) habitat in northern New Mexico. The model is based on a comparison of timber type data from known spotted owl locations and areas devoid of spotted owls in the Jemez Mountains. Factors compared were forest cover types, tree sizes, crown cover densities, and slope. Includes a map of potential spotted owl habitat in the Santa Fe National Forest of the Jemez Mountains.
