Isle Royale has 36 campgrounds with over 200 campsites. In 1982 a campsite inventory system was designed for use on Isle Royale. Easily measurable characteristics were used in evaluatioing each campsite and inventories were completed in 1982 and 1983 on all designated campsites within the park. A rating system was developed, assigning a numerical score to each campground based on the level of human impact evident on individual campsites with a higher score indicating greater impact. In the old resource management field office on Mott Island, is a file cabinet; in the first drawer of the file cabinet are file folders containing data related to this study. The files are labeled "Campsite Inventory Data 1981", "Campsite Inventory Data 1982", "1983 Campsite Inventory Summary", "1982 Campsite Inventory Summary" and "1981 Campsite Inventory Summary".
