Border areas of Great Smoky Mountains National Park were examined in a photogrammetric study of temporal trends in landscape heterogeneity. Data from aerial photos and timber cruise maps were analyzed to assess changes in the spatial heterogeneity of vegetation inside and outside the park. Information from the survey was used to describe and predict the development of ecological boundaries near the park borders.
