While stabilization treatment of logging roads within the boundaries of Redwood National Park involves removal or recontouring, roads in the Upper Basin of Redwood Creek, outside the park, can only be modified to reduce erosion. Nearly 1000 miles of these long-term roads exist on private timberlands, however, and erosion control projects in this upstream area can significantly improve stream conditions within the park. A pilot erosion control project is mentioned for 1991 in the Park Protection Zone just upstream of park lands; modifications would reduce stream sedimentation while maintaining use of the road for landowners. Future work includes finding sites for future projects and sources of funds, along with preparing a map of roads/ownership.
