This report provides an update to a similar one from 1991 regarding control of sediment input from Redwood Creek land upstream of Redwood National Park, California. While stabilization treatment of logging roads within park boundaries involves removal or recontouring, roads in the upper basin of Redwood Creek, outside the park, can only be modified to reduce erosion. About 1000 miles of these long-term roads exist on private timberlands, however, and erosion control projects in this upstream area can significantly improve stream conditions within the park. The report outlines the ways park staff can assist private landowners, and explains the need and value of this. A database now identifies ownership in the upper basin, for use in planning future work. Plans include continuing initial projects on Garrett Creek and the Stover Ranch, and facilitating funding, an important current aspect of reducing damage to park resources from upstream activity.
