Aerial surveys for bald eagles were conducted in the Naknek River drainage and along the Katmai coast in 1992. Activity surveys were conducted in late May and early June and productivity surveys were conducted in late July. Additional information gathered during the surveys was used to estimate egg-laying date, describe nesting substrate and site use, describe prey items, and calculate distances between occupied nests. Protocol for future eagle monitoring within the Park is attached to the report; it is intended to standardize data collection and allow statistical comparisons of eagle productivity.
