Use of Salt-Marsh Peat Reefs by Small Juvenile Lobsters on Cape Cod, Massachusetts

Able KW, Heck KL, Fahay MP, Roman CT. 1988. Use of Salt-Marsh Peat Reefs by Small Juvenile Lobsters on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Estuaries. 11(2):83-86

This 1985-1986 study found that juvenile American lobsters (Homarus americanus) used "peat reef" habitats in Nauset Marsh on Cape Cod. This previously undescribed habitat for lobsters may be an important nursery habitat for juveniles in the northeastern United States where peat reef habitats are found in salt marshes.
