Development of a method for monitoring spatial characteristics of beach sediment storage and erosion allowed study of significant changes. Time-lapse 35-mm cameras mounted on bedrock and aimed at the beach sites produced daily images which could then be digitized and used in various ways. At least 79 separate events in 28 sandbars were recorded, with most beach failures following low-flow discharges on weekends. Rapid erosion (typically complete within l day) is recorded, along with slower deposition (typically lasting two weeks). Bibliography, figures
