The evidence of cultural influences is to be preserved within the constraints imposed by a changing environment. The objectives of this study are two-fold, seeking to determine: (1) the record of human activity that remains on the landscape and (2) the nature of environment, both physical and biotic, and how fast it changes. The desired result is a report that can be used to draft a management plan that preserves the past and that is practical. This report presents results of a review of historic documents, field surveys, and pollen analysis of salt-marsh sediment. Each is a separate chapter containing sections on methods used and results where the data are presented and interpreted.
