Vegetation community analysis and preparation of a working vegetation map of Natural Bridges National Park

This study used aerial photography, ground proofing, and a semi-quantitative releve analysis to define and map plant communities within Natural Brides National Monument. Communities mapped include: riparian, grassland, Douglas fir-cottonwood, ponderosa pine, pinyon-juniper sagebrush, pinyon-juniper mixed shrub, pinyon-juniper slickrock, and pinyon-juniper buffalo berry. Authors suggest the community names tentatively, awaiting outcome of the Colorado Plateau Vegetation Advisory Group, which was in the process of defining the proper Colorado Plateau Associations. Though four distinct riparian communities were recognized (including hanging gardens), shadowing in the aerial photographs prevented their distinction, so they were mapped together as "riparian." The report includes the vegetation map, a map of hanging garden locations, a cluster analysis, and references. Follow-up work is encouraged.
