A study concerned with the vegetation and vegetation change of Ship Island, in the Gulf Islands National Seashore, Florida and Mississippi. A description of Ship Island includes a history, geology, physiography, marine processes, soil classification, and climatic data. Transects were used to analyze plant communities. An inventory and distribution map of plant communities on the island was produced. The effects of hurricanes on the island's forests, the influence of topography on species distribution, and successional trends are studied. The results are discussed and presented in tabular form.
