Vegetation of the Grassy Balds of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

The predominant grass of the balds is Danthonia compressa. Potentilla canadensis and Rumex acetosella are common. Crataegus spp. and Amalanchier laevis are the most common trees, and several species of Vaccinium are common shrubs. The flora of the balds has been introduced from the surrounding forests or introduced by grazing animals.
