Vegetation of the Great Smoky Mountains

The vegetation of the Great Smoky Mountains was analyzed using the field transect and environmental gradient technique with site-samples. A series of sites from xeric to mesic was developed and explained. Species populations usually were found to have rounded and tapered curves of population distribution along gradients. An interpretation of vegetation patterning is offered and discussed, as is that of vegetation types.
