Units of the National Park System provided unique opportunities for biological research. In particular, national historic sites often are managed to provide visitors with a view of historic conditions, frequently based on analysis of historical documents. Historical records may provide a comparative datum against which to judge the integrity of present-day ecosystems, and a goal for habitat restoration and management. Over the past year we have gathered information from field and library to construct a broad ecological and historical view of the vertebrates of Fort Laramie National Historic Site, Wyoming.
