An assessment of the water quality in areas affected by coal mining on the Obed Wild and Scenic River, Tennessee. Eight sample stations were established: Emory River (3), Obed River (1), Rock Creek (2), Camp Branch (1), and Daddys Creek (1). There is a physical description of the area: extent of the watershed, general water quality, and land use. Methods included: chemical analysis of grab samples; physical measurements of sample stations; collection of benthic macroinvertebrates; and the collection of fish. The results for each sample station are presented and discussed separately. Tables and Graphs compare the chemical and biotic parameters for each sample station. A map showing the locations of the sampling stations and the locations of mines near the rivers. There is an analysis of the water quality in the watershed, and management recommendations. There is a list of the fish and benthic macroinvertebrates collected during this study.
