The object of the report is to determine the bacterial quality of major back-country water sources as indicated by the presence / absence of fecal coliform indicator species (Escherichia coli) and fecal streptococci (Group D Lancefeld). The purpose is to find those sources which contain high bacterial levels indicative of fecal pollution can be identified. Causative factors for contamination can possibly be shown by inspection and perhaps mitigated. The goal is to provide hikers with the optimum quality of drinking water while visiting Bryce Canyon National Park.
