The natural and recreational resources, the local amenities, and the economic opportunities provided by the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area are intimately linked to its water resources. The quality of the water resource and the recreational experiences associated with it are, in turn, intimately associated with the chemical, physical and biological water quality properties of the water resource. A trend in water quality deterioration can be anticipated if the level of water quality protection is not increased. This deterioration could profoundly impact the value of the recreation area and the amenities and opportunities it provides locally, regionally, and nationally
