This management plan begins by describing the hydrologic setting of the water-dependent ecosystems of the Big Cypress Swamp (about half of which is within Big Cypress National Preserve). Planning considerations for water resources management include legislative constraints and current land use factors. Agriculture, pollutants, oil and gas, off-road vehicles, and many more are mentioned briefly as pertinent issues. The document describes the current and future preserve programs related to hydrology and water management, and contains 30 project statements identifying specific needs. Among the figures are a map of hydrologic features, rainfall summaries, profile of aquifer systems, hydrographs, and discharge data. Tables summarize project statements and identify monitoring stations for water stage and quality.
