Baseline inventory of the aquatic resources of Aniakchak National Monument, Alaska

Cameron WA and Larson GL. 1992. Baseline inventory of the aquatic resources of Aniakchak National Monument, Alaska. Technical Report. NPS/PNROSU/NRTR-92/03. National Park Service, Pacific Northwest Region

A limnological study was conducted during the summers of 1988 and 1989 to collect baseline information on the physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of water resources of Aniakchak National Monument. The objectives of the study were to describe the magnitude and nature of the physical, chemical, and biological perturbations associated with warm-spring inflows into Surprise Lake and its inlet streams, and to propose guidelines for a long-term monitoring program. Two lakes in the Aniakchak caldera and four lakes in Katmai National Park were surveyed in midsummer 1989 to provide a regional perspective on the interpretation of the influences of warm springs on water resources of the monument. The appendices include the raw data for discharge, temperatures, conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, secchi disc, water chemistry, phytoplankton, periphyton chlorophyll, zookplankton density, benthic invertebrates and fish stomach contents.
