Analyzed two savannas in the Big Thicket National Preserve to determine what factors were preventing trees from becoming established. In one, the nature of the soil (acid and high clay content) seemed to be a predominant factor. In the other, it seemed conditions which favored fire (i.e. flammable fuel) were the predominant factor. Includes aerial photographs taken in 1956 and 1968.
