Battle lake drainage, fishery investigation, Katmai National Park
Mahoney BA. 1986. Battle lake drainage, fishery investigation, Katmai National Park. US Fish and Wildlife Service, King Salmon Fishery Assistance Office. King Salmon, AK
A fish inventory and habitat evaluation of the major tributaries and outlet stream of Battle Lake was conducted on 28 July 1986. Using an electroshocker, no fish species were captured in the tributaries, although eight coastrange sculpin were collected in the outlet stream. One lake trout was captured by hook and line in the vicinity of one tributary. Tributary and outlet stream discharges were calculated and are presented. The apparent lack of juvenile salmonids in the streams surveyed was thought to be possibly due to 1) a late sampling date, 2) unfavorable rearing habitat, or 3) ineffective sampling techniques. Additional sampling was recommended.
