Birds of the Falls Creek area with special reference to Marbled murrelets, raptors and riparian species

Lentfer HE and Streveler GP. 1999. Birds of the Falls Creek area with special reference to Marbled murrelets, raptors and riparian species. Icy Strait Environmental Services. Gustavus, AK

Animal observations were conducted in the Falls Creek area to assess the impacts of a proposed hydro-electric project in the vicinity. Objectives of the bird work were to: determine the presence of and potential impacts to nesting marbled murrelets; document presence, distribution, and breeding status of species closely associated with riparian habitats; record observations of large raptors, with special attention to indications of breeding in the study area; collect opportunistic observations of other bird species. The proposed hydro project design requires extensive road building which could potentially impact murrelet nesting habitat.
