During the spring of 1983, the vertebrate life in the Guilford Courthouse National Park was observed, and a list of the various animals was compiled. This study paralled a thisis addressing the same topic written in 1976 by a former Guilford College Student. Unlike the previous study, where the Order Rodentia had the greatest abundance, the Class Aves was representative of the greatest number of vertebrates in the park. Indeed, a multitude of habitats was afforded to support such a diverse population of birds. In turn, a large number of other vertebrates inhabiting these ecosystems, and as a result make up a large accumulation of different vertebrates. A five month study of the park excludes many species of vertebrates, and the unseasonal cold weather may also have contributed to the absence of more species.
