Bed forms in base-surge deposits: lunar implications

Surface forms found around maar craters, such as Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley, are considered here in relationship with similar, but larger, forms around lunar craters. The authors suggest that wavelike shapes around some craters develop when debris-laden flows spread rapidly outward from an eruptive center, rather than being created by fallout of airborne particles. Includes two photographs of antidune forms at Ubehebe and one of base-surge deposits.
