The Little Missouri River drains small portions of northeastern Wyoming, southeastern Montana, northwestern SD and a larger region of SW ND. It flows northward, then eastward until it joins Lake Sakakawea, a large mainstream reservoir on the Missouri River in ND. The Little Missouri has a relatively unique fish fauna compared to other Missouri River tributaries in the region due to different ecological conditions. It is characterized by high turbidity, intermittent flow, shifting sediments, and limited aquatic vegetation. Objectives of this study were 1. to determine the current distribution of fishes in the Little Missouri River, ND, from Marmarth to Medora 2. to determine the current status of species of special concern within the survey area and 3. to compare the status of the current fish fauna with taht determined in previous fish studies.
