Results of first two years of water quality monitoring in Big Thicket by the Park Service. Compares results with earlier work done by outside organizations. Goal is to determine impact of logging, oil & gas exploration, and development. Measured precipitation, discharge, water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, specific conductance, turbidity, chloride, bacteria (fecal coliform and fecal streptococcus), alkalinity, color, sulfate, TSS, TDS, oil and grease. Concludes that water quality is generally improving, though there is evidence of degradation by development and oil field activities in some areas, and there are still potential threats to future water quality.
