Duck nesting was investigated at Eagle Lake, Lassen County, California from 1990 to 1993. The community composition, density, chronology, cover and success of nesting were the major points of interest, with Lesser Acaup, Aythya affinis, and Gadwall, Anas strepera the most common nesters. Northern pintails, Anas acuta and mallards were also present. Gadwall clutches were initiated in spring and early summer, with the peak in early June. Lesser Scaup were initiated in late spring through the middle of summer with the peak from late June to the middle of July. Nettle and gray rabbitbrush were the predominate nest cover, with hardstem bulrush as the predominate shoreline plant cover. Nest success ranged from 66 to 90% with predation as the predominate nest failure, 0 to 18% and 62 to 94% on islands and peninsulas respectively.
