A construction survey of the Mead-Phoenix 500kV transmission line project from near Phoenix, AZ to the substation in Clark County, Nevada, between March 1993, and December 1995 and how the project affected the desert tortoise (Gopherus agassizii). A small part of the project runs throught the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. There were three known incidental "takes" reported in the recreation area that were consistent with being crushed by a motor vehicle. Gates were constructed on the access roads in the park to reduce the potential of a desert tortoise "take".
