As part of a ecological baseline study of Aniakchak National Monument, the small mammal fauna of Aniakchak Caldera was surveyed in order to determine the species present, their relative abundance, and their general habitat affinities. Small mammal trapping was done from July 8 - 22, 1987, from a base camp on the west shore of Surprise Lake. A total of six species of small mammals were trapped, three of which were represented by single specimens. Annotated species accounts of insectivores, lagamorphs, and rodents likely to occur in Aniakchak are also discussed.
