1997 trumpeter swan production surveys, Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve
Mitchell CD. 1997. 1997 trumpeter swan production surveys, Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve
This report summarizes the most recent surveys for nesting trumpeter swans in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve (WRST), Alaska. The trumpeter swan inventory and monitoring plan provides details on periodic park-wide surveys for population trend, annual productivity surveys, and staging area surveys. Objectives were to provide managers with annual estimates of trumpeter swan nesting effort and cygnet production in one area of WRST. During August surveys a total of 109 swans were counted (75 adults and 34 cygnets), and nesting success was 60%. No clear long term trend in population size was apparent.
