"The ecology of the black tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) was examined on prairie dog towns in the Badlands National Park, southwestern South Dakota, over a 3 year period. This study was designed to: (1) examine characteristics of vegetation and soils in prairie dog towns, (2) estimate differences among population, age and sex structure on towns, (3) determin demographic differences in dispersed and resident populations, and (4) define a set of environmental variables that can be used to predict prairie dog town expansions."
