This 1993 report was funded by a University of Alaska Natural Resources Fund grant and the U.S. National Park Service. The objective of the study was to gather biological baseline data in Bering Land Bridge National Park. From 1-9 July 1993, floristic and faunistic observations were conducted on a section of the Lost Jim Lava Flow near Imuruk Lake. The researchers established 32 permanent plots at 200 m intervals for successional studies along a 6.4 km transect. The majority of the plots were representative of a crustose lichen community. For the Lost Jim Lava Flow as a whole, the researchers documented 40 species of vascular plants, 38 species of bryophytes, 64 species of lichens, 23 bird species, and one mammal species.
