An exploratory biological survey and literature review of the Kobuk Valley was conducted during 1973-1975 for the U.S. National Park Service. The report is presented in three parts: Part 1 describes the physical factors that affect the biological systems of the Kobuk River drainage. It consists of a description and analysis of major physiographic features, climate, and fire. Part 2 describes the flora and vegetation of the middle section of the Kobuk Valley and includes a map of the major vegetation types. Part 3 examines the vertebrate populations. The past and present status of amphibians, fish, birds, and mammals that are known to occur within the Kobuk drainage are reviewed. Emphasis was placed on fish and mammals utilized by residents along the river
