Most of the watershed covered in this natural resource plan is within Apache County, Arizona, and the lower part of it is within Canyon de Chelly National Monument. As a result of a 1996 study, the Canyon de Chelly watershed was identified as top priority in the Navajo Nation for "comprehensive watershed restoration planning and project development." This study is based on a number of different methods for determining needs and potential projects. The report includes short sections on soils, rangeland, surface water hydrology and sedimentology, geology and geomorphology, channel erosion and vegetation, diversions, irrigation, and more. Includes photographs and tables (acreages, streamflow, potential costs of projects). Appendices list 39 species of concern (with general locations), and agricultural fields and diversions. Folded maps show location, agricultural fields and diversions, stream crossings, and potential projects.
