Fish populations of an Alaska volcanic lake
Manski DA, Mahoney BA, Sonneville G. 1988. Fish populations of an Alaska volcanic lake. National Park Service, Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve. Tucson, AZ
Surprise Lake (ANIA) was surveyed to describe existing populations and learn more about recovery of this aquaitc system following the most recent eruption of 19931. Dolly Varden (Salvelinus malma) and sockeye salmon (Oncorhyncus nerka) were the only fish found. The absence of non-anadromous species may indicate that recolonization of the lake has not yet occurred.
