An environmental assessment of the estuarine and riverine zones of Skagway was made to discuss the impact a proposed airport would have on anadromous fish spawning habitat and rearing habitat, as well as permanent estuarine and riverine habitat losses that would occur under the proposed action. Included in the report under Appendix D is a survey of the Skagway River conducted to determine the occurrence of fish species during the winter. Dolly varden, unidentified sculpin, and coho salmon were all caught in galvanized traps. Environmental assessment for a project which involves constructing a parallel taxiway, adding a terminal, fencing and lighting, moving the runway 105 feet west and raising it to protect from floods, and move the footbridge to eliminate towers and widen the constriction in the river channel.
