The zoogeographical and ecological analysis of the fish fauna and the annotated list of fishes make this paper the outstanding work on the aquatic life of Isle Royale. The account is based upon earlier studies by Walter Koelz and those of the two authors. Describes the fish fauna present in Isle Royale's inland lakes and portions of Lake Superior in 1945. This study also bears on problems of postglacial reinvasion, dispersal, faunal origin, isolation and speciation. Contains an annotated species list with a synopsis of the known distribution on Isle Royale, along with some notes on habitat and habits, remarks on the characters and taxonomy of certain species, and diagnoses of three new subspecies of Cyprinidae. Orginal descriptions of the Harvey Lake pearl dace, the Harvey Lake blacknose shiner, and the Harvey Lake flathead minnow are made in this paper.
