In an effort to survey for river otter presence on the Colorado River in southeastern Utah, in early 1989 the author searched from the Westwater area near the Colorado-Utah state line to 15 miles downstream of Moab, Utah. He found two separate pairs present, at least one of which was a mated pair. He also records sightings made by other individuals during this period, including two within Canyonlands National Park (one in Cataract Canyon and one on the Green River), and another upstream on the Colorado River in Westwater Canyon. Report includes notes on observed behaviors of the otters, some speculation about otter movement, and notes on the river ice conditions of that winter. Document includes river maps and locations of observations, and references.
