Thirty hatchery-raised razorback suckers fitted with radio transmitters were released into the lower Green River at Millard Bottom, in Canyonlands National Park, on June 16-17, 1998. Half the fish were held in a backwater for 48 hours before release into the river(experimental group), while the others were immediately released (control group). Fish were then tracked weekly for 60 days. All the fish generally moved downstream. Five fish turned up the Colorado River at the confluence, one travelling 72 km upstream. Movement decreased over time, and the experimental group decreased significantly more rapidly than the control group. Authors tentatively state that acclimation may reduce dispersal, and they call for additional research to examine other aspects of site acclimation.
