(Adapted from author's abstract). A population census and the first stage of a muskox habitat study was completed in 1992. Transects were established on a few sites where mukoxen were observed in late winter (early April) and were visisted by helicopter in July. Ecosite, vegetation type and composition, slope and aspect were recorded on 500-m transects at 9 sites. A variety of different habitat types were utilized by muskox, although certain ecosites predominated in the small sample. No clear preference for a vegetaion type could be determined, but muskoxen appear to select south-facing slopes.
