In 1993 and 1994 the status of seabirds was monitored at major breeding colonies in lower Cook Inlet, Alaska. Lower Cook Inlet is a region in which MMS is considering offering new leases for oil development. The objective of this study was to collect information on population trends and reproductive success of selected seabird species to assess potential impacts of oil leasing in this region. Primary study sites included Chisik and Duck Islands near Tuxedni Bay, Gull Island in Kachemak Bay, and at Flat Islands near Port Graham. Survey efforts were primarily devoted to cormorants, kittiwakes, murres, and puffins.
