As part of an ecological survey conducted by the U.S. Coast Guar, observations of pelagic birds and mammals were made in the eastern Chukchi Sea between September and October 1970. Observations were also made in the Bering SEa on October 18, 1970. Animal sightings were plotted on maps and compared with previously published observations. Some southward migrations had already occurred - no Arctic terns or Grey whales were observed. Other species were only seen during the first weeks of the study. Birds were collected for stomach analysis and observations of the feeding behavior of gulls were correlated with the distribution data and stomach content findings.
