During the last decade great strides have been made in development of fish population models, in which abundance and survival rates for different life stagees have been related to environmental factors and rate of exploitation. Initially such models were deterministic in nature, but recently the interactions among the various factors have been considered as stochastic processes. The introduction of simulation models, facilitated by high-speed digital computers, has greatly enlarged the scope of operational tools availalbe to biologists. As a result, reproduction curves can now be established for many stocks of fish, from which future yields can be duduced and the management of a given fishery formulated to stabilize and maximize them... ... In this paper are describe some observations on the adaptation of the sockeye salmon, Oncorhynchus nerka, to its freshwater environment in the Kvichak watershed of Bristol Bay, Alaska
