Most of the birds listed were sighted on the Circle trail that begins at the visitor center. The trail takes you through a variety of habitats that include an oak-elm woodland, marshy areas, along Lake Hiawatha and Pipestone Creek, thickets of sumac and buckthorn, and remnant tallgrass prairie. For each species listed the season of occurrence, habitat preference, and relative abundance is indicated.
