Establishment and utilization of the timber harvest compartment system, Chisana, Nabesna District

Beck KA. 1989. Establishment and utilization of the timber harvest compartment system, Chisana, Nabesna District. WRST. Glennallen

Subsistence timber harvest compartments have been established in the Chisana stand in order to regulate timber harvest and to prevent overharvest from occurring. Timber harvest compartments have been established in areas in which requests for future timber harvest permits are anticipated and in reas which have experienced recent harvest. Compartments will be established, sampled for basal area and then will be open for permitted harvest. When 1/4 of the basal area has been harvest3ed, the compartment will be closed to further harvest until the preharvest basal area is again matched in the compartment. As an ongoing resource management project, enough harvest compartments have an will continue to be established for the anticipated short to middle term demand for timber harvest permits.
