1994 Annual Report on Moose Inventory and Monitoring Efforts in Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska

Route B. 1994. 1994 Annual Report on Moose Inventory and Monitoring Efforts in Wrangell-St Elias National Park and Preserve, Alaska

Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve employed and further tested the No Strat technique for monitoring moose abundance and composition. The technique provided a reasonably unbiased estimate of 259 moose (90% CI = +/- 31 moose) in a 396 sq.mi. study area (0.65 moose/sq.mi.). Preliminary cost estimates suggest the No Strat costs about half as the Gasaway technique, but 2-3 times as much as an annual trend survey. The trade-offs of using the various techniques are discussed.
