Objectives for field efforts during 1998 included: 1) continue monitoring the population size, composition, and trends of the Mentasta caribou herd; 2) evaluate productivity and survival of adult females; 3) initiate efforts to compare growth patterns of Mentasta and Nelchina caribou calves; and 4) investigate genetic relationships of the Mentasta and Nelchina herds.
