From the Introduction: "The Coastal Forest Merlin (Falco columbarius suckleyi)...is a falcon globally unique on the Washington/British Columbia/SE Alaska western slope to coastal landscape. This merlin subspecies is the least understood raptor in North America.... The non-profit Wildlife Conservation Trust identified the need for a timely, comprehensive investigation into this little known falcon's life history and sponsored the Coastal Forest Merlin Project. In 1989 this investigation began systematic survey of the northwest bioregion ... and found the highest concentration of breeding merlin on the Olympic domain. ... The intent of this report is to provide the baseline documentation of merlin breeding occurrence and habitat selection on the Olympic peninsula landscape and to lend insight toward the Coastal Forest Merlin's conservation stewardship needs." Some sites located within Olympic National Park.
